Respected members,

Sharing pictures of Cenchrus purpureus in flowering. It is a widely introduced fodder grass species in the Indian subcontinent, it even naturalized in a few parts. There are several cultivars and forms of this species, the one I posted was introduced almost 15 years ago in the lower parts of Himachal Pradesh with the help of the State Agriculture Department.

Cenchrus purpureus
Synonym: Pennisetum purpureum
Common Name: Napier Grass, Elephant Grass
Hindi Name: हाथी घास
Observed in December 2023 at Hamirpur, H.P.

Best regards,

Yes. These are hybrid Napiers. Pennisetum purpureum (Napier) X Pennisetum americanum (Bajra)
