Shot taken recently during drizzling at Kolkata, while it was preening sitting on a West Indian Elm (Guazuma ulmifolia) .
 
White-throated Kingfisher: (Halcyon smyrnensis), Resident subject to some seasonal movements, abundant, 28 cm, call a musical  'kililili.......' or loud 'ke-ke-kek-kek-kek' in flight, not dependent on water, seen singly in open & wooded country, nesting typical of Kingfishers, often perches on wires. Wide spread in India.
