Specimen attached above: Type - Law 13; Bababoodun hills, Malabar,
Maharastra; K.
Distribution: This is a widespread taxa found from India to South
China, Korea and Japan
Note: Check the THIIN spur. And the number of synonyms depict how
tricky the plant is taxonomically.
To add to this, this plant is new record for Maharastra, hence, I will
recommend Smita to publish it in some journal.
Regards
Pankaj
Specimen attached above: Type - Gand s.n.; Ceylon, Sri Lanka; K.
Distribution: This according to Kew is endemic to Sri Lanka, but Dr.
Almeida has reported it from Maharastra and that too from Sawantwadi
(S.M.Almeida 3150; BLAT). The description given by him clearly
identifies the particular taxa. Earlier it has been reported by Yadav
and Sardesi in Flora of Kolhapur but I dont have the reference.
Check the globular spur.

Today till 11:19am I had basically no idea about the identifying
feature of Peristylus gardneri.
By 12:10 pm I had both description as well as the digital herbarium of
the type of both Peristylus gardneri as well as Peristylus densus.
By 12:40 pm I concluded that the pictures shared by Ms. Smita Raskar
was infact Peristylus densus only.
By 12:43 pm, I posted my conclusive mails.
By 8:45 pm I again got an itch to recheck my own identification as I
was unable to see the spur in Smita's first picture so I requested her
for a better resolution picture.
Now its 12:32 am and I am finally confirming that the pictures were
infact Peristylus densus for 100% sure.
Achievements (in 12 long hours):
1. Peristylus densus is a new record for Maharastra
2. I have in depth knowledge of both species but I am sure, I will
again have an itch soon :p
So who is gaining and who is loosing...
Its the contributor of the photograph who is gaining whereas I cant
keep myself away from taxonomic itch !!!! :))
Thanks to Smita Raskar and Mr. Sharad Kambale.
Enjoy.
