Malvaceae week 0905-9112011 UD 017  Hibiscus mutabilis that does not mutate, WHY ?

Familiy:            Malvaceae

Subfamiliy:           Malvoideae

Tribe:                       Hibisceae

Genus:                        Hibiscus

species :                         Hibiscus mutabilis...  that does not mutate....

Dear All: I am sending in a specimen of Hibiscus mutabilis ....
this particular plant was obtained by airlayering from a mother plant that is a truly " mutabilis" plant... gets white flowers that turn pink and then red ...  more cutting (second generation) from this non mutating mutabilis continues not to mutate....

Is this phenomenon of genetic expression changing?  how?  what is the reversal process?

The owner of this nursery and his son are well educated and internationally known , he is also the president of East Indian states nursery trade and growers  association, i met him at an all India conference where he gave a lecture ...I mean to say I believe him...

Is there anybody working on genetic mutations in Malvaceae   or Hibiscus in particular ....?  would they like samples, what kind and how preserve them ... ?

or has this already known?

Would be eager to know.....

Thanks
Usha di
