Abutilon persicum
I was very lucky to find few shrubs of this Malvaceae family member on 25th Jan2009.This is my first sighting of this flower. Initially on our way suddenly a plant with only one flower was observed but later at some distance few other plants were seen. These shrubs were laden with many beautiful flowers. The picture also shows the leaf pattern.
I remembered Rahul Natu's thoughts when he had seen the same flower for first time.
Place:Village Nandivali near Mulshi.Pune.Maharashtra.

Are these flowers supposed to be rare or uncommon?

... I find it common at Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Mumbai and its extensions: Yeoor Hills, Thane, and Nagla Block near Ghodbunder; and as well as at Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary.
Must say that I have always rather found them as colonies in certain stretches than all along.

Regards.

I have seen flowers of Persian Mallow in Sanjay Gandhi National Park
once in November 2007. Subsequently, I checked the same area later but
did not see these flowers.I haven't seen them since.

Cheers,
Kiran Srivastava
