Locality: Darjeeling Alubari TN Road
Date of Collection: 7/8/2018
Altitude: 6800 ft
Local Nepalese name: CHINDE

The local name you mentioned is the wrong one.. Chindey is a different tree often used to make Chatney and the leaf extract are used for stomach problems infact for Kidney related problems.

Will get back to you once i remember the local name of Sambucus canadensis (only plant species under sambucaceae family found in Darjeeling as far as i know).

I know Chinde is different plant, that is Macropanax undulatum (Araliaceae), but Ward no 7, near Burdwan Palace area 7 local  people called Sambucus Canadensis as "Chinde". I collected this plant from Ward no 7, that's why I mentioned here.


Sometimes, same local names are assigned to different species, even taxa under different families.

Another population of Sambucus canadensis is also documented from Alubari TN Road area, they also called it as "Chinde". Surprisingly Macropanax undulatum tree is located near to it.

It is called Chinde by Smt Bishnupriya Rai of TN Road
