Fieldwork forms an important aspect of the course, and there are several outdoor trips being organised during the year. For instance, Dr C S Lattoo, who heads the ‘Taxonomy’ course, takes his students to several nature spots in Mumbai, such as Sanjay Gandhi National Park (SGNP), Byculla Zoo and such. Says Lattoo, “Subjects such as ‘Taxonomy’ cannot be taught merely sitting in a classroom. We show our students live specimens of what they’re studying. In the fieldtrips, students get to learn about various types of medicinal plants, animal kingdom and several aspects of plants and animal life.”
