Malvaceae week : Ceiba speciosa, drunken tree the trunk from Buenos Aires

Ceiba speciosa is also called drunken tree, you will know why, when you
see the foto.

The Foto is not good, klicken while travelling on the bus. Can't say,
which Ceiba speciosa of the two it belongs to.
Foto taken on 29.3.2010 in Buenos Aires.

good quick reflex ... did you keep camera on always?
glad you did, big bottle like shape .. is something we do not see in
areas where this is used for xeriscaping...

its called drunken not because of the bottle shape of the lower
trunk...
its drunken like because its branches twist and turn looking
'awkward'
twisting and haphazard shapes of the branches is supposed to be due to
spurts of sudden growth during availability of water and drooping etc
during long periods of drought, then growth with rains, etc ...on and
on...

Secondly in some soil it sort of leans, like a drunken guy toppling
over...
