Dear friends,

Sending a photo of orchid (Dendrobium sp.) flowered 2 years back. This was bought from an exhibition in Mumbai from a vendor from Darjeeling.  Now the orchid has stopped flowering.

Regards,

Mani.

I am extremely sorry, my office net has not been working since
yesterday and my personal internet was good enough to chat but not to
reply and to add to this, I had been too busy these days.
Anyways....

This is most probably a deformed form of Dendrobium moschatum. Please
send me a picture of leaf tip to check. Thanks for the good words
Smita.

Thanks Gerris2 and Pankaj ji for the orchid ID.  Presently most of the leaves are gone.  I will send a closeup photo of the leaves available.

Regards,

Mani.

Leaf is similar to mochatum but I dont think the plant is moschatum.
This is something else but still in deformed state. D. moschatum has
long cylindric stems not swollen towards top like yours.

Very strangely, I find that pics that you sent earlier are too much
different from what you have sent now.

Thanks Pankaj ji for your reply.  The plant is the same.  The potting medium became stale and hence I repotted it to a new medium (coir peet).  After the repoting the leaves started falling.  Does the plant look healthy?   zWhat has to be done now?   Do I repot to another medium like brick and coal?

Regards,

Mani.

Leaves do fall usually when you repot, so have some patience for the
time being. If the plant is turning yellow then its bad sign.

Dear Maniji & Pankajji,
I don’t think it is Dendrobium moschatum. I have attached two
photographs of D moschatum from Assam. The flower is not distinct in
Maniji, photographs. So Maniji can only tell us about the lip shape.
So I am including D fimbriatum having similar kind of stem and leave
shape.

Raju Das

Your attachments are missing buddy. Can you please reattach.
There are lot of difference between leaves of moschatum and
fimbriatum. Attaching one sketch from one of my latest unpublished
article, didnt have time to edit. 10 is Dendrobium moschatum and 11 is
Dendrobium fimbriatum.
Sending you one more flower pic from wild. Make a guess about the id.

Dear Mr. Raju, you are researcher thats why I am explaining you. If
you check first few pics you can see the stem is so much elongated,
but the pictures shared latter has stunted stem (pseudostem).
Regards
Pankaj
