Dear members,
Am posting some photos of what I think is Lactuca serriola plants growing in a field in Rawathpora Srinagar.
Habitat : Wild more than 1.5 meters high
Habit : Herb
Leaves Pinnatifid with fine spines on the margin and a row of spines along the midrib.
In sun the leaves twist keeping margins upright and leaf blade parallel to the rays of light (see photo) hence the name Compass Plant (Wikipedia). It is the closest wild relative of the cultivated lettuce L.sativa.
Note:
The fruit was photographed in Sept 23 and Inflorescence in Aug 23. All the rest are from July 2024.
