Dear Balkar ji,

Thanks for posting Platanus. This reminded me Hibiscus platanifolius (leaves look similar to that of Platanus, so the name?). I will post it in seperate mail.

With regards

R. Vijayasankar

Excellent photo Balkarji,   I have taken some photos when we visited Kashmir last year.  The trees are majestic looking and are protected in Kashmir.  I will pos some photos.

Very nice photos Mani.

This species is not typically cultivated in the US. Instead, we have the complex hybrid P. X acerifolia, as well as native P. occidentalis, P. racemosa, P. wrightii, as well as the Mexican P. mexicana.

Ken.

Mani ji
Good photographs, reminding me more of Kashmir

Platanus orientalis growing primarily in the Mediterranean presents an example vicariance with its closely related species of America, P. occidentalis; Kenneth is so familiar with.

Thank you very much for sending these photos.
In our young age there was a song in marathi in which there was a comparison of Chinar tree with Termerind tree!!
After looking at your photos i really feel like laughing like Tanay Ha Ha Ha, though it may not suit my age!
the song was
He chincheche zad dise maj chinar vrukshapari
Disashi  tu disashi tu disashi tu navtaruni Kashmiri
that is this termerind tree looks to me as a chinar tree and you like a Kashmiri beautiful lady.
sorry for diversion from identification of trees
Madhuri

Madhuri ji
It was not diversion rather important interjunction. Chinar tree being huge deciduous tree loses its leaves in October-November. Locals gather these leaves into heaps, burn them under control (rather ground fire with only smoke and not flame coming out) so that these leaves are converted into flakes of charcoal. Locals use these  in their Kangri, which may remain heated for up to two days with one filling of Chinar charcoal.

I am sending a picture of Chinar trees shot at the Mata Khirbhavaniji Temple, Srinagar.  When you look above at the chinar trees, you see the map of  India.

Hope it is interesting to you.

Regards,

Mani.
