(170409SCS4-6) Herb for ID from Haryana

This herb was growing on the roadside near the Delhi canal.
Tried to find out the ID in the books but proved a wild goose chase.
Sonepat, Haryana, 11 April 09.

Thank you Garg ji, it does not look like Persicaria lapathifolia.
Looks like some polygonum species. Will post the pix once it flowers

It looks like Polygonum persicaria, particularly with darkish (or purplish) patches on the leaves at the link www.missouriplants.com/Pinkalt/Polygonum_pers...
