During my visit to Nandivali village near the banks on the backwaters of Mulshi village Pune a large scale bamboo flowering was observed. I think someone has posted about such flowering in Western ghats last year also.
Can someone highlight on the species/phenomenon.

Dear Dr. Satish,

I had posted this earlier in Jan itself. I had been to Khandala on 4th Jan nad seen profuse flowering of Dendrocalamus strictus (Kalak) on the slopes of Khandala hills. Here are some photos of the same (taken by my students).

Regards,

Rajendra

Hi friends,
I hope nobody does what was done in our wayanad. People cleaned up the
base of the bamboo before the seeds could fall and collected and sold
the seeds to those who wished to use it like cooked rice.
We can hardly see any new bamboo sprouting in these areas.
regards
Yazdy Palia.

hi friends
one important aspect about bamboo - bamboo dies after flowering. i think this gregarious flowering all the bamboo will die that is the special nature of bamboo.

Dear Yazdy Palia
It did look like rice paddy husk profusely spread on the ground in the whole area and even the smell was similar to rice.
I think probably everyone knows that different species have different flowering cycles may be 13; 40-45; 80 or similar years.Am I right?
