Dear Friends,

The sheer beauty of this deciduous tree attracted me and made me curious to know more about it. Sadly there were no flowers or fruit on this handsome tree, but I've feeling that the in the last picture two objects at the end of twigs are seedpods.

Tree Location: Prabhat Road, Pune
Date: 9th May 2009

Mayur Nandikar suggested me that it could be Spathodia campanulata or
Kigellia pinnata both Belongs to Bignoniaceae Famous one for Showy,
large flowers and these two are planted as avenue tree for its
beautiful flowers.

It quite looks like Spathodia campanulata or African Tulip Tree.
Searched on the net and found an interesting image -

In the given link a parrot is eating the winged seeds from the open
pod of the African Tulip Tree. The open pod looks very much like the
pods in the picture DSCN0470c.

Thanks Mayur ji.

I will vote for African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata). It has 5-8
deeply veined leaflets. Also the stem is typically like this thick
below, and narrowing to the top.
Kigelia pinnata leaflets look different from this.

Quoting Pankaj Oudhia <pankaj...@gmail.com>:

The African Tulip or Spathodea is also known as Rudrapalash in Bengal.
