DUE RESPECT SIR,

I AM RESIDING IN RAJKOT GUJARAT AND IN OUR CITY WE HAVE SOME 4 ODD TREES WHICH ARE LOOK-A-LIKE TO SEMAL TREE (INDIAN COTTON TREE) BUT I HAVE SEARCHED THE I-NET BUT I HAVE FOUND OUT THAT THIS TREES SEEMS SOME KIND OF DIFFERENT TO ME AS THERE ARE NO THORNS ON THE TRUNK, NETHER IT BEARS THE CUCUMBER LIKE FRUITS FROM WHICH COTTON THREADS ARE EXTRACTED.

I AM NO EXPERT IN THIS NOR ANY RESEARCHER SIR, BUT I AM CURIOUS TO FIND OUT RICH NATURAL RESOURSES OF OUR REGION, IN GENERAL FOR OUR INDIA, I THINK NO BODY IS GIVING SUCH DEVOTED TIME FOR EXTENSIVE SURVEY OR IDENTIFICATION OF RICH BIO-DIVERSITY OF INDIAN SUBCONTINENT.

I'M SENDING THE LEAF (COPY SCANNED) FOR SOME INFORMATION ON THIS SPECIES.  CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME OUT IN IDENTIFYING THE TREE?

HOPING THAT I AM NOT DISTURBING YOUR BUSY SCHEDULE, BY RAISING SUCH A SMALL QUERY !

SORRY FOR THE INCONVINIENCE CAUSED TO YOU SIR,

THNX & REGARDS

NEERAJ DAVE

Dear Dhimant Sir

I am a hobbiest for nature study and trees, herbs and wildlife of gujarat, which is so far as on today, the unexplored area in nature study in gujarat.

Very less people are in to study of wildlife, trees, herbs, plants, medicinal plants, insects and animals, birds etc. of gujarat and their habitat and usage, still these are unexplored areas, moreover, you will not find any good books with pictures to understand about the wild life and other natural resourses of gujarat.

Near my home town , there are five tall trees  having leafs like Jamun tree.  Nobody is knowing which tree is that.  Its almost 3 to 4 story height and sheds its leafs when the flowers bloom.   Its Flower is of thick skin and dark red in color in big shape with 4-5 flanges (just like a lotus flower ).  Right now its not the flower time for that tree, but i am sending one of the scanned LEAF photo of it to you, so that, it can be identified as which tree is it.

however, you might have in touch with some expert of these trees and plants that is why i am sending this e-mail to you. YOu can also forward this to some of the knowledgiable person in this regard.

So far as the information as available on the internet , i have tried to search but the most similar photo i got to this LEAF is of "SEMAL" or the COTTON TREE.  I am not sure exactly whether this is the same tree or not.

Kindly pass on these facts to the knowlegiable persons of botani in gujarat who have studied for logn hours researching for gujarat's rich botanical life.

hope my query gets some resolution from somebody, someday.

Thanking you in advance

Sincerely Yours

Neeraj V Dave.
