Grewia asiatica Linn., Mant. 1:122. 1767. DC., Prodr. 1:511. 1824
syn: Grewia hainesiana Hole; Grewia subinaequalis DC.

Local names
Hindi: Phalsa, dhamin, parusha, shukri
Tel: Jana, nallajana

Large shrub or small tree with broadly ovate to almost orbicular leaves, never lobed, acute to obtuse at apex; stipules obliquely lanceolate or falcate; flowers orange-yellow, 2 cm across; sepals 1.2 cm long; stamens numerous, filaments orange-yellow turning red; fruit globose, 5-12 mm across, dark purple.

Sold as seasonal fruit in tropical and subtropical areas. Photographed from Herbal Garden, Punjabi Bagh, New Delhi

Here it is. Actually when the tree was flowering in Delhi, all older leaves had almost fallen and new were emerging along with flowers. Here is a few which were still to fall.
