I think I see your photos show the leaf, the inflorescence differently.

   It is a Smilax spp. possibly S.ovalifolia.

Hi Neil,
Am i making a mistake bet. smilax and dioscorea?
I have sent another mail of Smilax (according to me ).
If u zoom that pic. u will see prickles and alternate shiny leaves and of course long tendrils.
i tried to compare the flower buds of dioscorea in my pics with Shrikant's book.

even i had seen this at CEC and SGNP but first time in flowering.
certainly not smilax, if this is dioscorea the most probably it could
be dioscorea alata.

want to correct my self it is smilax species, not dioscorea.
what i have observed is that both male and female flowers in smilax
zeylanica has umbellate inflorescence. this is some other species
