Vijayasankar,
This looks like Tacca chantrieri to me:
http://www.ubcbotanicalgarden.org/potd/2007/07/tacca_chantrieri_1.php
http://www.rareflora.com/taccachablack.htm

http://www.indoor-plant-care.com/indoor_plant.asp?title=Tacca+chantrieri%2CBatplant%2C+Tiger+whisker%2C&item=plant_details&id_slika=2005&id_razred=11&id=190
I could be wrong though!

You should be right Tabish ji.

The sessile nature of inner involucral bracts good enough to confirm your id. Sorry for my carelessness (without referring floras i named it just by looking at the entire leaves ), and thanks for correcting me.
[in T. integrifolia, the inner 2 involucral bracts suppose to have long stalk http://flora.huh.harvard.edu/china/PDF/PDF24/tacca.pdf].

With regards

Vijayasankar
