Hi,
It appears to be Pterospermum accerifolium, also known as Kanak Champa, Dinner Plate Tree.
I am not clear whether suberifolium is the same as accerifolium-may be the experts can throw light on that.
Where was this flowering? Is it Maharashtra?
The flowers have a fantastic fragrance. And it is a spectacular sight to see and incredible perfume-very subtle but enveloping.
This is the time that it flowers in Delhi.

... I have been considering this plant to be P. acerifolium.

Search on internet shows that both P. suberifolium (cork-leaved pterospermum) and P. acerifolium (maple-leaved pterospermum) share most of the commonly known names in Indian languages.

Couple of pages in a Google book (behold the URL:

... gives some account of difference among the 2 species ... please note the hand-painting numbered 1526, on page above description of P. suberifolium ... the leaves illustrated are clearly different.

I am convinced that the one discussed here is P. acerifolium.
Friends and experts to further validate.

Regards.

I dont know. The tree shown is medium sized. The flowers are not very large nor profuse, the leaves are not maple type. Is the original suspicion of it being suberifolium right?

Hi, Anand ji,
It's Pterospermum accerifolium only.
