Dear Friend,
If you go through Ramayan by Valmiki(Geeta Press Gorakh pur),you will be surprised to note that the poet has mentioned 136 distinct plants in his Ramayan. To me only a great observer can do that.I have gone through the Ramayan by Valmiki, line by line to find out the plants he has mentioned in Sanskrit.I tried to find out the Scientific name of each one, with the help of books.I am not sure about the identity of 13 plants mentioned by Valmiki.
Plant lovers can think about a botanical garden, where all the plant species mentioned by Valmiki will find place.I tried for this project with different Govt and NonGovt agencies without any success.
Attaching an image of a plant ,mentioned as Bibhitaka, this is BELLIRIC
MYROBALAN.Scientifically it is Terminalia bellirica.Wish to send you images of other plants mentioned by Valmiki,in due course of time.
Regards
