Can Catnip be grown in India? If so, where can it be found?

In Srinagar Kashmir N,cataria is one of the commonest weeds.

It is also called " Biyari Ghas" ( cat's grass) by villagers.I do not know if this name is indigenous or a result of contact with Britishers for whom Kashmir was a popular resort during British rule.

Thanks, this sounds very interesting! I was wondering if it's true that cats are attracted to it. Or, is this just a myth? I have seen a lot of products saying it has catnip in them. Is this good for human/animal consumption?

Attraction of cats for some of the chemicals found in the plant is well known. Nepetalactone is the chemical that has behavioral effect on cats. The Wikipedia article on Catnip has lots of information and references including medicinal uses.

I think  it should grow in places like Ooty.

However these days they are even growing saffron in Mumbai with controlled climate .
