Tamil generic name for Eriocaulon and specific name for Eriocaulon robustobrownianum Ruhland

Dear Vijayasankar ji.

Please help in coining a generic name for the genus Eriocaulon ... I suggest பந்துமலர் pantumalar ... பந்து = ball; மலர் = flower ... the flowerhead of Eriocaulon alluding to a ball.

Further, coining a name for Eriocaulon robustobrownianum Ruhland

One of its synonym is Eriocaulon mysorense Fyson ... thus use மைசூர் maisoor as prefix to பந்துமலர்

Hope மைசூர் பந்துமலர் maisoor pantumalar is good for use as a name for E. robustobrownianum

Dear Dinesh ji,

Apologies for the delayed response; just got back from vacation and catching up on emails.

I think the name பந்துமலர் pantumalar is suitable for the shape of the flowerhead, but it doesn't match the size compared to a ball.  

I noticed that E. odoratum is called "Buttonpoovu" in Malayalam (FoI), and I think it is more apt. The same can be used with slight modification for Tamil (Tamilified English!) as button poo பட்டன் பூ (button flower) for the genus. If this is agreeable, then  E. robustobrownianum may be called Mysore button poo மைசூர் பட்டன் பூ (or Mysuru button poo மைசூரு பட்டன் பூ).

I agree about பந்துமலர் pantumalar being not appropriate in this context.
