I like the latter option of மலை நாவல் malai naaval = hill jamun; it is a very nice name.

The name 'kollinjaval' is recognized as a Malayalam name in several references (e.g., IISc-IndiaFlora, wisdomlib.org, Navendu's book on Endemic Woody Plants). It may have been mistakenly listed as a Tamil name on some websites.

For Syzygium laetum, I think the Tamil name காட்டு நாவல் 'kaattu naaval' meaning forest/wild jamun, or மலை நாவல் 'malai naaval' which translates to hill jamun may be appropriate.
