Hi,
Terminalia paniculata .
Date/Time-17 May 2010 9.00am
Location- Sagargad,Alibag
Family : Combretaceae
Common Name : Kinjal
Habit : Tree
Habitat : Evergreen forests and Deciduous forests
Fruits with 3-5 longitudinal wings; fruits with 3 unequal wings, 1
long and 2 short.
Description :
Glands 2, sessile, near the base beneath; nerves 10-15 pairs,
prominent beneath long, hairy. Stamens in 2 whorls; filaments inserted
outside the disc. Disc villous with long white hairs. Fruit 3-winged,
2 of the wings narrower of obsolete, 3rd wing larger, more than 1 x 1
cm.
Leaf Arrangement: Opposite, Alternate
Leaf Shape : Elliptical or oval, Oblong
Inflorescence: Spike, Axillary, Terminal
Corolla : Petals Absent
Stamen : 10
Ovary : Pubescent

Wrong id.
You have written correct description of fruits of Terminalia
paniculata, and it does not match the fruits you have photographed. At
one place you have said 3-5 longitudinal wings- which is probably a
mix up from incorrect literature.
The plant in your photo is most probably Terminalia arjuna.

I suppose Promila ji is right. The fruit does not seem to belong to T. paniculata in which one wing is very large often 2-2.5 cm broad, as compared to other two not more than a few mm.

Terminalia paniculata has bright reddish fruits and much smaller than
that of T. arjuna.
