There is only a single species Pistia stratiotes L.. This is an aquatic Aroid native of South America. The flowers are Spathe, sheath like all members of Araceae family. These light colored purse like Spathe can be seen in the centre of the leaf rosette in some of the plants. They are hidden most of the time.
