Thanks Dinesh ji for posting the photographs of this plant.  The leaves when lighted using a match stick / or any other source  they start burning like a  wick in a lamp, of course without the oil !  That's why it is called Pandavara batthi.  Mythological story  says that Pandavas during their  exile (vanavasa in the forests )  used the  leaves to light-up.   This is commonly seen near BRT forest range and Coorg area.

Thanks Dinesh ji.  The epithet "  batti" or 'batthi'  (ಬತ್ತಿ)  actually  means  "wick" of an oil  lamp.
