Yes a Rhododendron species.
Looks close to R.anthopogon. BUT 2500m altitude is too low for this species which occur in alpine zones above 3200m.

Dears,

Dr. Rawat's observation is correct.

Churdhar (Dist. Sirmour, Himachal Pradesh) is a unique place where due to microclimatic conditions all four Rhododendron species of Himachal occur in a short distance of about 5 kms. The altitude, however, varies from about 2500 metres near Nohra (R. arboreum) to about 3400 m at Churdhar (R. campanulatum, R. lepidotum & R. anthopogon).  It is a treat to trek up to Churdhar during late May to early June to enjoy vast expanses of landscape covered with flowered Rhododendrons of different species..

Respected Munshi Sir,

Thank you for your response. R. triflorum do not occurs in H.P. We
have only 5 species (R. anthopogon, R. arboreum, R. campanulatum, R.
hypenanthum and R. lepidotum) here.

Garg ji, Yes, It is Rhododendron anthopogon. I had not seen this plant
earlier. Someone had brought this plant for me from Choordhar.
However, got the opportunity to meet this high altitude friend during
our Choordhar expedition with Dr. Gurcharan Singh Sir, Dr. Balkar ji
ans Dr. Nidhan Singh ji. I forgot to update my post in 2015 after our
expedition.

As per Flora of Bhutan:
subsp. anthopogon; R. haemonium Balfour f. & Cooper, R. anthopogon D. Don var. haemonium (Balfour f. & Cooper) Cowan & Davidian.
Branches without persistent leaf bud scales; corolla (in Bhutan) usually pink or pinkish white sometimes (in Darjeeling and Sikkim) lemon-yellow.
subsp. hypenanthum (Balfour f.) Cullen; R. hypenanthum Balfour f.
Differs from subsp. anrhopogon in its branchlets which bear persistent lanceolate leaf bud scales at nodes; corolla creamy-white or yellow, sometimes (only in Bhutan) pink.
As the difference are difficult to judge from these images and Flora of Pakistan gives Rhododendron anthopogon D. Don as syn. of Rhododendron hypenanthum Balf. f., I am keeping it under Rhododendron anthopogon only for the time being.

Garg ji, six years have passed since I had posted this. I am sure since 2015 that this one is only R. anthopogon.
