Hi Tanay,

 

Nice photos of Cleome hassleriana (?!). It doesn't look like Cleome gynandra i.e. Gynandropsis pentaphylla which is a common weed naturalized in our country.

Thank you Vijayasankar Ji I made a mistake to identify it because I became to overconfident of it being G gynandra . This plant is indeed Cleome hassleriana . Thanks for pointing it out to me ..

Dear Satish ji,

 

Cleome gynandra is a naturalized species and rarely planted in India (as far as i know). Plants are covered with glandular hairs and the leaflets are inverted egg-shaped. Androphores are well developed in flowers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleome_gynandra and there may be several other differences. http://hpb.narod.ru/adyar/cleome_gynandra-fl-1.jpg Whereas,

 

Cleome hassleriana is always planted in Indian gardens and rarely seen in natural habitats. Plants without glandular hairs and the leaflets are oval-shaped. Only gynophore is present and androphores not developed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cleome_hassleriana
