I think the bird-plant relation must be likened to the relation of Vannathi - Vannan.

Thus, I think the names വണ്ണാത്തി vannathi and വണ്ണൻമരം vannanmaram are good for compilation.

This name is related with a bird വണ്ണാത്തി കിളി Oriental Magpie Robin Copsychus saularis and I am aware of the relation between this plant and bird.

Another meaning for vannathi is the wife of vannan of vannan tribe.

Vannanmaram - it may be either വണ്ണൻമരം or വണ്ണാൻമരം, here വണ്ണൻ vannan is huge circumference & മരം maram is tree ie. tree having huge circumference.
