In the list provided below you have mentioned C adansonii odora as Vilvam. If i am not wrong Vilvam is Aegle mormelos.

14 CHITHRAI   Bengal Quince   Vilvam…..Barna….Crataeva adansonii subsp. Odora (garlic pear)

I am of course presuming that Vilvam is a tamil name. This tree is common in all Shiva temples.

Also Crateva species plants are equally treated as religious plants.

Yes Garg ji but in our parts in Tamilnadu Aegele marmelos is called vilvam. This is one tree i know very well as lots of people in my family  are very religious and use these leaves regularly and i live next to a Shiva temple.:)
But as Dinesh ji has mentioned Craeteva seems to serve the same purpose.
this also has made me realise that  the tree i posted earlier, which is still under contentious id - Craeteva adansonii odora - was in front of  a Shiva temple !
thanks every one.

BSI Flora gives one syn. for Aegle marmelos as
Crateva marmelos.
Nakshatra van was written by ancient Indian scholars and later on people are trying to fit in botanically correct plants for sanskrit names of Indian trees.
Even Nighantu an Encyclopedia on ayurvedic medicinal plants also mentioned old sanskrit names for the trees. The knowledge was transferred from one generation to other but there were gaps and finding exact palnts now is a big task. Some experts have done it to a large extent but still a lot can be done.

I checked up from Pradeep Krishen's book. Crateva adansonii subsp. odora is known as garlic pear as it smells like garlic, and is edible when cooked. Our bel which you rightly pointed out is aegle mormelos is sweet when ripe. Actually its ssherbet is a favourite in the eastern part of UP. I remember once I went to Allabad during summer as election observer. Bel and its sherbet was available in plenty and I had a fill of the delicois liquid!
Both the trees incidentally have trifoliate leaves which would be a favourite of Shiva. Is the trifoliate leaf dear to Shiva as it resembles his trident?

Somebody had mentioned acacia catechu as the tree associated with a nakshatra. Unfortunately I am not getting that mail. Can the gentleman repeat his message? Thanks in advance.
