yes common in bengal...
called gandha-bhadulia...

used for rejuvenation, made up in a multi med concoction/
brew....kwatha...
even Chakradatta described it way back when

...never seen the flowers, and Pankaj ji... the buds look like modern
day large med capsules...

Thnaks a lot Usha mam.
As you can see the bengali name is "gandha" may be referring to smell
and so does "foetida" mean, "foul smell".
