Mayalu/Malabar Spinach/Basella alba

Sureshji has recently posted this plant.
The climber which is commonly observed in Pune and around is a variety with red stem prob. var. rubra.
It is called Mayalu in Marathi and used as leafy vegetable.
This was photographed in Pune in Feb 2009 on a hedge of a bungalow.
Reddish stem and flowers (Less than a cm) can be seen and black fruits are also visible.

The red stem ones are supposed to be even more medicinally rich - or that is what is believed in Bengal. I found it more difficult to grow at least in Delhi environs.
