Hi Mr. Kasaju,

Thank you for that input. I am not sure if it's Vitaceae. Any thoughts on the genus and species?

Regards

Thank you very much, Mr. Garg. Sorry, I was traveling and could not reply sooner.

Unfortunately, the plant did not have flowers or fruits when I photographed it. I am not sure about the shape of the leaves, since the base looks more rounded in the reference pictures you sent.

I am sending all the pictures I have with me, to see if that can help confirm the ID.

Warm regards
Nancy Seby

Hi everybody,

Resurfacing this conversation since I got this ID from the Chief scientist at IIHR, Bangalore.

"Looks like Merremia vitifolia Convolvulaceae yellow flower"

I haven't seen any flowers on this plant. But the leaves look right. Any thoughts?

Regards
Nancy

Looks more like Ampelocissus . M. vitifolia less likely .

For one , Petiole is not so long in M.vitifolia ....in fact much shorter than peduncle . Just checked my collection . Here I see long petioles .

Thank you very much for the explanation, Dr. Rakesh Singh.

Would you know which species of Ampelocissus? Ampelocissus latifolia leaves look very different. And I have not seen any fruits in this plant.

Nancy

Hi everybody,

Updating this thread once more. I have observed this plant in December 2024 also. There are no flowers, fruits, or seeds from July to December.

The two IDs I got so far were Ampelocissus latifolia and Merremia vitifolia. Both don't seem likely.

And the interesting thing is, it is very very common on roadsides in Thrissur, Kerala. Also observed it growing in the wild in Goa. Very perplexing that I cannot find the name yet!

Nancy Seby
