This shrub was spotted in Chikamagalur region (Karnataka). Requesting ID for this..

the leading end/distal end is sharp as in pointed... no chilli has that

its most likely some cucurbita member with infection as you say... nearby leaves seem to have some /many spots on their surfaces

some fungus growing i guess sine its  forming a film...
some bacteria doo that esp if they are slimy...
but moulds and fungi are more likely to have slimy stuff.. that dries into a film

I have a feeling that this could be fruits of Brugmansia sp...Not very sure.

As fruir seems fusiform it could be B. svaveolens if fruit is 10-15 cm long, B, versicolor if fruit 15-30 cm lon
