Nice pictures Bharathi! 

Both Barleria montana and B. prattensis are morphologically similar, hence often confusing. I remember collecting Barleria montana from Paruvathamalai hills. The seeds in this species are hairy. If you see glabrous seeds, then it could be B. prattensis.

Barleria montana Nees in Wallich

Herbs, perennial, up to 60 cm high. Stems terete, glabrous. Leaves ovate or elliptic-lanceolate, 7 – 13 * 2.5 – 5 cm, attenuate at base, ciliate at margins, acute at apex, glabrous, glaucous beneath; lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs; petioles 1.5 – 2.5 cm long. Flowers solitary, sessile or subseesile, axillary or in terminal spikes; bracts linear-oblong, 2 – 3 cm long, ciliate  at margins, acute at apex, glabrous. Outer sepals ovate, subequal, 3 – 4 *  1.2 – 2 cm, rounded at base, ciliate at margins, acute at apex, glabrous, strongly nerved, brown; inner sepals linear-lanceolate, 1.2 – 1.8  * 0.2 – 0.3 cm, acute at apex, glabrous; midrib distinct. Corolla 7 – 9.5 cm long, glandular-pubescent outside, pink; tube 5 – 5.5 cm long; lobes oblong-obovate, subequal, 2.5 – 4   1 – 2 cm, emarginate at apex. Fertile stamens 2, exserted; filaments 3.5 – 4 cm long, glandular-hirsute at base; anthers 3 – 4 mm long; staminodes 3, 1 – 2 mm long, glandular-hirsute. Disc covering ½ of ovary. Ovary ovoid, 4 – 5 mm long, glabrous; style slender, up to 4 cm long, glabrous; stigma linear, c. 2 mm long, 2-lobed. Capsules oblong-lanceoloid, 2.5 – 3 *  0.5– 0.6 cm, glabrous. Seeds ovoid or subquadroid, 4.5 – 6 mm, clothed with appressed-silky hairs.
Flowering & Fruiting: October – February. Habitat: On exposed hill slopes above 1000 m.
Distribution: India: Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha and Tamil Nadu. Endemic.

Vernacular Names: Madurakurinji (Malayalam); Gulabi Koranti, Ikharu (Marathi).
Herbs or undershrubs, perennial, erect or suffruticose, up to 1 m high. Stems terete, deeply grooved, glabrous, puberulous at nodes. Leaves elliptic-oblong to lanceolate, 6 – 15 *  2 – 7 cm, attenuate at base, ciliate at margins, acuminate at apex, coriaceous, glabrous, glaucous beneath; lateral veins 5 or 6 pairs; petioles 0.5 – 3 cm long. Flowers solitary or in pairs, terminal; pedicels c. 5 mm long, occasionally up to 8 cm long; bracts linear-lanceolate, 0.5 – 1.5 *  0.1 – 1 cm, ciliate at margins, acuminate at apex, pubescent or subglabrous. Outer sepals much variable, ovate, 2.5 – 4 *  1.5 – 2 cm, rounded at base, ciliate at margins, acute at apex, glabrous outside, puberulous inside; midrib often reddish brown; inner sepals linear-lanceolate, 1 – 1.8 cm long, ciliate at margins, acuminate at apex, pubescent on veins outside. Corolla bilipped (4⁄1), 6 – 8 cm long, glandular-pubescent to glabrous outside, pink; tube 3 – 4.5 cm long, whitish; lobes obovate, subequal, 1.5 – 2.5   1 – 2 cm, obtuse at apex. Fertile stamens 2, exserted; filaments 2 – 3.5 cm long, glabrous, pinkish towards apex; anthers c. 4 mm long; staminodes 3, 1 – 1.5 cm long, glabrous. Disc covering 1⁄3 of ovary. Ovary oblongovoid,
c. 4   2 mm, glabrous; style slender, 4 – 5 cm long, glabrous, pinkish towards apex; stigma linear, 2-lobed, brown. Capsules ovate-lanceoloid, 2 – 3   0.5 – 0.8 cm, turgid. Seeds broadly ovoid to subglobose, 4.5 – 6   4 – 5 mm, glabrous, brown.
Flowering & Fruiting: September – February.
Habitat: Undergrowth in deciduous forests.
Distribution: India: Andhra Pradesh, Dadra & Nagar Hevali, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu. Endemic.
