Dear Friends,
Came across this climber on the way to Lohagad fort (Lonavala region). Kindly validate the ID..

Bot. name: Gymnema sylvestre ??
Family: Asclepiadaceae

Date/Time: 20-06-2010 / 08:50AM
Location: In the Col of "Lohagad - Visapur Fort" (near Lohadwadi), Lonavala region.

Habitat: Wild
Plant habit: Climber

Leaves Opposite, 5 to 6cm, ovate, acute, base rounded, petioles approx: 1 to 1.5cm

Try chewing a leaf and then eat some sugar. You will not feel the
sweet taste of sugar. This will also confirm its identification. This
is one of the medicinal properties of this plant and hence it is
commonly called as Gurmar......ONE THAT KILLS SUGAR!!!
