Sarcandra chloranthoides Gardner [Chloranthaceae].

In POWO, it is treated as a synonym of Sarcandra glabra subsp. brachystachys; however, that does not seem to be correct. In effect, POWO reduces Sarcandra to a monotypic genus of one species — S. glabra — with three subspecies.

Attached are relevant extracts from two oldish papers by B. Verdcourt published in the mid-1980s; the publication details are mentioned in the file names. S. glabra subsp. brachystachys was described by Verdcourt in 1985 wherein he remarked that "throughout its range Sarcandra glabra is described as having an essentially red fruit...".

Best wishes, Viplav
