Nice greeting card Vijaysankar ji
It is supposed to be one of the most beautiful flowers. I have yet to observe it live. I have seen its pictures though. I am wondering how come members from Mumbai have not yet posted its pictures on the group so far. I have read about one tree in University of Mumbai.
Wishing all members a very happy Diwali and the festive season !

Dear all,
Wish u all a very happy, safe and pollution free Diwali celelbration!

Vijaysankar ji,
Very beautiful card. thanx for sharing.

Satish ji,
Here are few pics of Amherstia nobilis taken at the campus of the Univ. of  Mumbai, and V J B Udyan (Rani bagh), Byculla, Mumbai.
This tree can be seen only at these two places in Mumbai.  It is also said that some one in Juhu - Khar area has also planted this beautiful tree in his garden.  But i am not sure.

It deserves to be called as the 'tree of Heaven' because of its beautiful and unique flowers.
it blooms during March- April. Whenever it blooms in Mumbai in 2010, i will let u know on this e group so that u can visit Mumbai and u will realise that the flowers are much more beautiful than what they look in the photographs.  (we, the members of save Rani Bagh Botanical Garden Action Committee will be happy to accompany u for a Rani Bagh tree trail.)
cheers,
shubhda

Hi Shubhada,

Just one correction, the place where you have indicated stigma is actually the stipule. Stigma is at the end of stipule.

regards,
Rashida.

Rashida ji and Shubhada ji

Stipule in flower, I am surprised.

The two coloured,  What is this? are two bracteoles on the pedicel.

Sir, besides the two bracteoles on the pedicels as you have informed, I think what is marked as  sepals in the pics are the two twisted smaller petals, the flowers have five petals, three of which are supposed to be marked with yellow. The sepal are 4, and I think it should be the long tubular cylindric structure as described in Trees of Mumbai. Am I correct? Kindly enlighten. Thank you.

regards,
Rashida.

Very beautiful pictures. Thanks for sharing.
Actually after opening the picture and zooming in further the label does appear to be closer to stigma .....which is at the tip of the style, which is far shorter than the adjacent stamens... probably nature's creation to avoid self pollination.
Also seen is a small pollinator sitting on one of the anthers.
