Crinum Viviparum - River Crinum Lily 
(hope the aquatic plant identification  is correct.)


Hampapura, Mysore dist.
Habitat: rocky beds near irrigation canal, aquatic, 
Height 40-60cms, flower size -12-15cms

Checkered patterns in its body points to the common Checkered keelback snake, found near paddy fields, rocky beds and streams.  We call them Holla budda, harmless & non poisonous and has learnt to live harmonious with farmer.  (Farmer's friend). However they are known to  bite if stepped or caught and handled roughly. This one was basking in the sun and not giving me way to cross over the small check dam  for few minutes. But then, I took photographs from  a meter or two. Later, when a farmer came walking - he raised his ribs/neck for a second and moved into the rock crevices slowly.
