Note: "Anogeissus pendula is arguably one of the most ecologically significant indigenous tree species of Rajasthan's Aravalli and semi-arid hill ecosystems. It occupies an important ecological niche between dry deciduous and semi-arid vegetation and can dominate extensive hill forests.
Its distribution across the northern, central and eastern Aravallis, occurrence in important protected areas such as Sariska, Ranthambore, Kailadevi, Nahargarh, Kumbhalgarh and Ramgarh Vishdhari, tolerance of shallow and rocky soils, and importance as browse and habitat make it a keystone/characteristic species for dry Aravalli forest restoration.
For restoration programmes, the recommended approach should therefore be “protect–assist natural regeneration–supplement with locally sourced planting material”, rather than plantation alone."
