Hi,

 

These pictures (of Heliotropium indicum L) were taken at Shankarpur, Dist. Midnapore, West Bengal.

 

Heliotropium indicum L.

 

Known as Indian Heliotrope. In Bengali it is known as “Hatisur”.

 

Family – Boraginaceae.

 

Type –Wild.

 

Blooming Time : July to November.

 

Helioptropium indicum L and Butterflies.

Heliotropium indicum L is closely related with Danaine Butterflies ( Ex.-Plain Tiger, Blue Tiger etc.). Hiliotropium indicum contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids. Danaine Butterflies collects juice from the dry plants which contain the above alkaloids. Pyrrolizidine alkaloid is the main constituent of the scent used by the male to attract the female butterfly.
