This is Thelypteris (Section Menisciopsis) penangiana, common mid-altitude species.  See illustration in Khullar - should be in your University libaray.

Curiousy it does not occur in Penang, Malaya - it was named from Indian material sent in witha mistaken locality of Penang!  Like Lathyrus japonicus from Britain which was never seen in Japan.

Presumably Polystichum discretum - but as I mentioned, one has to be able to see the stipe scales in situ.

But you can look and learn for yourself - P. discretum has all narrow sales and fibrils.  The sometimes similar P. yunnanense has castaneous dark broad scales at the stipe-base, like P. piceopaleaceum.
