Hi,

Provided here is a link to a Mushroom, shot in Panchgani, hill station
in Maharashtra, with the central part which had this brown sap/ozzing-
thick sluggish liquid. Could this be part of the tree sap?

Can someone explain how this is being created?

Thanks

i don't thinks any thing is oozing out, it seems to be part of the fungus,
the fungus may be Ganoderma sp.
thanks

Thanks Nayan.

Sorry am not a botanist and may have applied wrong terminology here:-)

However, would still like to know how these fungus grows, why such
colors, thickness of that brown stuff- does it have a purpose etc.

Just a lay person asking this question- I never did learn this in the
school syllabus so the curiosity still persists

Thanks again
Aletha

Dear Aletha,
As pointed out by Nayan Singh ji, this fungus is Ganoderma lucidum. The surface is hard and appears to be polished. The undersurface is porous, so are members of polyporales. These are wood rotting fungi.

Dr IK Sethi
