I shall be thankful if  this tree can be identified.  The photograph was taken in Chennai (10 years ago).   This was the only one specimen seen  in Chennai  as far as my knowledge goes.

To me it appears closer to Albizia chinensis as per comparative images at Albizia

If I am not mistaken, the inflorescences are terminal and axillary panicles of spikes.  This single character points out the species as Albizia falcataria (L.) Fosb., a Malesian species, naturalized in peninsular India and Sri Lanka, found up to 1350 m altitude. This is a fast-growing tree and therefore cultivated for afforestation.  I have seen herbarium specimens from Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Variously treated as Paraserianthes falcataria (L.) I. Niensen and Falcataria moluccana (Miq.) Barneby & J.W. Grimes.

Dear Tapas ji and Garg ji,

Thanks  a lot for  the ID. Great help.   Species level ID  was pending for a long time  and now it is solved.  I am indepted to Dr Tapas ji for taking  his valuable time amidst his  busy schedule,   in  checking the  characters of the species in detail  and arriving at the perfect ID.

Regards,
M.Swamy

It is Falcataria moluccana (Miquel) Barneby & J. W. Grimes, Syn. Albizia moluccana Miquel,
because Inflorescence consisting of 2- or 3-times-branched panicles of few flowered spikes. Flowers homomorphic, sessile.
Thank you
