Potentilla gracilis var. fastigiata (Nutt.) S. Watson
A species often confused with P. recta but easily differentiated by presence of basal leaves at flowering time, hairs of same size, deeper yellow flowers with longer style, smaller epicalyx (2-6 mm as against 6-12 mm in P. recta). Photographed from Tahoe, California,
