Dear friends,

A couple of pictures of Impatiens minor.

Family: BALSAMINACEAE

Photographed from the premises of Bekal fort. (29th Aug 2014)

Known in Malayalam as Onatharu (ഓണത്താര്)- indicating that it flowers during the Onam festival season (August-September).

Also called Vellamkudi (വെള്ളംകുടി)meaning 'that which drinks water' indicating its succulent nature and was used by children to clean their slates.

Warm regards,
Sandhya

Sandhya ji, please help me with another name mashithandu for this plant, in native script. It is mentioned in the literature: Medicinal plants of Tulunadu of Shodhganga database.

Regards.
Dinesh
