This is GOLAP JAM in Bengali and according to the “Plant Groups” (a college text book) the scientific name is Eugenia jambos. Now a wikipedia search tells me that it is also known as Syzygium jambos.
Species : Syzygium jambos (syn. 1. Eugenia jambos 2. Jambosa jambos)
Habit & Habitat : Garden tree, not common
Date : 17.03.2012, 10.30 a.m.
Place : Garalgacha (Hooghly), WB
