looking at the  leaves it is  Acer macrophyllum.  But other features need to be checked before confirmation.  I have come across this tree when I was in Princeton.

To me it appears more closer to Acer saccharinum as per images and references herein.

sugar maple samara.JPG
We must look for details/clues in the 3 images offered. The leaf shape is good for Sugar Maple aka A. saccharum; I have circled what appears to be the samara which looks the correct shape for A. saccharum. Some also call it a Rock Maple or Hard Maple when referring to the wood/lumber from this tree.

Can you remember the size of the leaves?

If the leaves are large we can be looking at A. macrophyllum the samara is a similar shape to A. saccharum. If the leaves are small then we look elsewhere.

Carmelita Ji,
As far as I can remember, the leaves were not very large but medium.
The leaves were high up and I could take these pictures with a zoom.
Tree itself was not very tall.
This was by the roadside, so we could halt only briefly.
Hope this helps.
Regards,
Aarti
