Thank you very very much, Vijayasankar ji, for help.
Among the two options, I will take நீர் கூவை Neer koovai ... it is closer to Kannada and Tulu names.
Yes, I had seen the Malabari name Maravara tsjembu in  FRLHT-ENVIS ... I knew it was placed wrongly for Tamil.
Regards.

Dear Dinesh ji,

The name  அருருட்டு is just a (modified) transliteration of the English name Arrowroot and not a proper Tamil name.
I think நீர் கூவை Neer koovai or நீர் கூகை Neer koogai would be more appropriate for Lagenandra ovata. Koovai or Koogai are Tamil names for Maranta arundinacea, a similar-looking plant.

Note: I noticed that in some databases (FoI, FRLHT-ENVIS), the name Maravara tsjembu is erroneously listed as a Tamil name for Lagenandra ovata. This is a "Latin" name (now a synonym) originally applied to Remusatia vivipara in Hortus Malabaricus.

Dear Vijayasankar ji,

Please help me coin a name for Lagenandra ovata (L.) Thwaites in Tamil.
It is distributed in Tamil Nadu as per BSI.

On lines of name given in Kannada (ನೀರ ಕೂವೆ neera koove), Tulu (ನಿರ್ಕೂವೆ neerkoove) ... literal meaning = water arrowroot, named so due to its aquatic habit and resemblance with Maranta and Curcuma species, I am thinking of நீர்அருருட்டு nir-aruruttu. Please help.

Regards.
