Dear Dinesh ji,
The name
அருருட்டு is just a (modified) transliteration of the English name Arrowroot and not a proper Tamil name.
I think நீர் கூவை Neer koovai or நீர் கூகை Neer koogai would be more appropriate for Lagenandra ovata. Koovai or Koogai are Tamil names for Maranta arundinacea, a similar-looking plant.
Note: I noticed that in some databases (FoI, FRLHT-ENVIS), the name
Maravara tsjembu is erroneously listed as a Tamil name for
Lagenandra ovata. This is a "Latin" name (now a synonym) originally applied to
Remusatia vivipara in
Hortus Malabaricus.
