Could be..but comparison of leaf size and stipules will guide the path.
unable to find short and exact keys, photographs.

Sorry but actually E. rupestre has been excluded from China in recent revisions made by Wang (2012, 2014). So I don’t have well understand on what is the real E. rupestre. But your images indeed look same to some of the specimens that identified as this species.

I think he might be trying to say that this species from China might have been misidentified earlier and now placed as some other taxon.
